These ham and cheese crescent roll-ups are a meal option. A package containing eight crescent roll-ups can be useful for adding to children's lunches and other party foods. These crescent roll-ups can be baked when desired as a meal or snack food with deli ham and Swiss cheese additions and a butter topping to melt the cheese.

I add one slice of ham and half a cheese slice to each triangle-shaped pocket. Filling more than that will cause it to overflow the pastry and become soggy in some spots. Roll each triangle from the wide end to the tip and place on a baking sheet. Folding the tip of the triangle helps keep its shape as the cheese melts.
The topping has melted butter. I combine Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and onion powder with melted butter in a bowl and use this mixture to brush the dough before baking. I pull the pan from the oven when the topping is deeply golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Serve hot with tomato soup or other basic vegetable soups. A simple green salad with vinaigrette dressing also complements them. Honey mustard and ranch or other hot sauces can be served with them, but I like them best plain with hot toppings.
Why this recipe works
- The dough is cut into eight triangular pieces. Rolling out all the dough at once is quick and easy, and all the rolls will be the same size.
- Prep time is 10 minutes. The rolls bake while you clean the kitchen and ready serving dishes.
- Eight roll-ups feed four people as lunch or snacks.
- One baking sheet will hold all of the cookies. Parchment paper can be placed on the baking sheet to prevent cookies from sticking and make cleanup easier.
- The freezer recipe includes directions for preparing uncooked and cooked roll-ups to use for more than one meal.
- They are convenient to bring to potluck dinners and other events. They can also be used for school lunches.
